On the election, pt. 3 - A RANT

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've about had it with all the bickering, name calling, and innuendo surrounding the military background of each of the 2 major Presidential candidates. I don't care; it's not relevant; and it won't affect my vote. Shut up about it, will ya.

I mean, seriously, does the fact that Kerry had 3 purple hearts really make a difference? Obviously, it's something from him to crow about (and maybe the only thing, but that's another matter), but is it relevant? Does it make him a better candidate? Will it make him a better President? If the answer to either of the last 2 questions is "yes" then how would things change if he only had 2 purple hearts, or one, or none (assuming he still served in Vietnam)? Sure, there are veteran voters out there who think this is an important issue, but Vietnam was fought over 30 years ago. Get over it. Besides, it was a politically and socially charged issue so behavior on either side is justified in the light of history.

As for Bush, who cares? His military history wasn't an issue during the last election, why is it an issue now? Because he's running against someone how actually may have fought? How's that any more relevant now that it was 4 years ago, really?

What really aggravates me about this is all the attention and debate this is getting in the press and amongst the support groups. Given the fact that we've already elected a documented draft dodger, twice, and he wasn't an absolute failure as a President, can't we drop Vietnam across the board as not relevant? It's a non-starter. So just stop it. Move one. There's nothing more to see here.
