Wow!
What a busy weekend. Drove down to Houston Friday evening towing my Karmann Ghia (Dad's taking it back to AZ to play with) and it ruined my gas mileage. Spent the weekend at Mamaw's and had BBQ & cake to celebrate her birthday (and my sister's). Came home late Sunday and then spent Monday prepping for our neighborhood homeowner's meeting that we hosted last night. Then the fun started . . . . just before 10pm a huge storm blew through and took down a big limb from my elm tree out front. It ended up blocking the entire street and barely missed a car parked across from my house (by inches). Unfortunately, the City never came to clean it up so when I got up this morning I took the chainsaw out and cleared it up enough for folks to drive through. Nothing like playing lumberjack at 6:30am on a weekday!
The other thing that happened over the holiday weekend was our one year wedding anniversary. It was a year ago Memorial Day that my wife and I got married so we went out to a nice dinner to celebrate and then ate a reproduction of our wedding cake topper (had a new one made instead of trying to save the original and it tasted much better). We had dinner at St. Martin's. The food was delicious and the wine list was outstanding and affordable. All I can say about my first year of marriage is that it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. We didn't fight too much, didn't have possessive or time management problems, and were generally happy and glad to be together. The only "real" problem we encountered is that of dealing with family around the holidays. Scheduling Thanksgiving and Christmas to live up to each families expectations and traditions is very distressing, especially if one or both of them are highly inflexible. Oh well. All in all, I give it two thumbs up.
